Review: De La Habana a New York

| 06/22/2012

I went to the concert De La Habana a New York on Saturday 16 at Copacabana New York, and thought of sharing my thoughts with you.

We had VIP tickets (75$) which allowed us to be on the upper deck of Copacabana where food and drinks were served, and the artists would show up. The concert was supposed to start at 6pm and finish at 12. We understood that there would be some delay as we were still in the queue at 7pm. We got in at 7.20 pm, went up to the upper deck and it was fantastic. Open roof on New York skyscrapers, beautiful weather, and the artists started to come to take pictures with us. Bamboleo, Puppy, manolito, etc.

There were approx 70 people in the VIP area and we all had a lot of fun. The artists were very easy, accessible for discussion and taking pictures. At 8pm, we were asked to move to the dancing area where the concert would start. The concert started at 9.45pm……The waiting was quite annoying as there was no sitting area, and on top of that, the DJ was playing House music! Yeah, House music for a salsa crowd. He got booed and whistled at, and changed the music pronto. He played some salsa, but quite frankly, his performance was awful. Some salsa songs we never heard before, and the mixing was appalling.

Anyways, at 9pm, some guys showed up on stage. We all thought the concert was going to start. Not at all, these guys were technicians tuning the instruments. It took them 45 mn and the job was badly done. Indeed, Bamboleo started their first song, and we could not hear the singer’s voices. He stopped the song in the middle to ask the technicians to increase the volume of the mics. The result was better, but not during the whole concert.

Although the time we waiting for the concert to start and the technical difficulties, the artists performed very well. Great energy, fantastic voices and communion with the public. Pupy was amazing on the keyboard, Manolito was great so were all the other artists.
The concert ended at 12.30 and we left quite satisfied although the poor performance on a technical perspective.

Enjoy the pics!

Many Thanks to @KarlLusbec for the pictures and the wonderful review 😉
